Missing You

I miss having a mother
I miss having someone to cry to
Someone to talk to
I miss braiding your hair
And having you braid mine
I miss the way you would remind me to do things
And the way you would look at me
Like I was on top of the world
I miss having a mother
I miss the way you would make me my favorite dinner on birthdays
I miss you telling me about our ancestors
I miss when you were angry at me when I missed the bus
I miss having a mother
So when I came out to you
And you decided you weren't a mother anymore
A part of me died too
Because I had a mother for 17 years of my life
And then you decided I wasn't yours anymore.
