Missing you

I just left you to go home a while.
You said something that made me smile.
I hesitated in the doorway of your room.
Felt like I didn't want to leave so soon.

Home, fed the cat, checked the mail.
Then came the call, you took a turn...
The nurse softly said I don't think he'll make it.

Another week would have been our 5th anniversary
I had plans to last an eternity, with you.
It tears me up that I wasn't there, with you.

I hear the echo of your last words to me.
"Thank you for loving me."
Forgive me, the tears still flow
I'm missing you so.
