Mon Haiti Cherie (dearest Haiti)
Mesmerized by the former pearl of the paradisiacal islands;
0n your sides rest the workers of the fertile farmlands;
Now escaped from your trembling and weak hands,
Haiti, picturesque country, teemed with majestic mountains,
Alternate your warm climate with your gentle breeze in the plains.
Indulgent towards the pillagers of your magnificent wealth,
Try to cry out to anyone who has mercy on your feeble health;
Inspire your dear children with the pride of your glorious past;
Conceal your acute pain and reveal your sublime delight at last.
Harvest the fruit of freedom for your hard and rough labor.
Exult with joy and gladness; sing happily with ardent fervor.
Revamp the dilapidated walls of your devastated patrimony;
In the depth of your soul resounds the call for peace and liberty;
Extend your arms to defend the rights of all who long for democracy.
