Monarch on the Page

Early June morning,
In a Texas backyard hot tub,
I sit sipping a mimosa reading
And a Monarch alights on a page.

I watch in silent wonder,
A muscle I don't twitch,
As respect is given to nature
And a beauty such as this.

Beauty abounds,
The yard teems forth in bloom,
The sun shines high and hot,
And the butterfly is determined to stay.

Several minutes escape,
But time is of no matter,
As the Monarch pauses in its quest
To achieve the journey's end.

The life cycle of the Monarch,
A beauty in its own right,
Is a reflective, pensive thought
Of one's journey here on Earth.
