monochromatic love

you are a mystery
wrapped in possibility paper
and tied off with a bow brimming with anticipation

there’s something to be said
for the not knowing

you become a vessel
for my vivid imagination
a blank canvas
i can paint any color i choose

who’s to say i’m not right
until you prove me wrong

i build castles and cathedrals
out of expectation
out of bricks made of hope and girlish fantasies

i fill in the spaces between
with fool’s gold

we are a black and white movie
that plays whenever i close my eyes
won’t you reach out, make us come alive
in brilliant technicolor
