MOONLESS NIGHTS

MOONLESS NIGHTS
I wonder how life was back when
The moon did not exist
Were nights so much darker then
When light hid in the mist
Did streams still glisten brilliantly
Was the air pure, crisp, and clean
Did the young remain in mum's embrace
Until the time to wean
Did mountains grow before your eyes
Did forests march up the hills
Were there five oceans and seven seas
Was life full of hidden thrills
Did the tides surge then--were there crazy moods
Were sleepless nights unknown
Did human births and injuries
Spike monthly, on their own
It seems we may not know precisely
How things were way back when
The one thing that's a certainty
Humanity endured back then
