Moonlight Melody

In twilight dewdrops glisten
while whimsy wildlife listens
and the fading dim of day becomes a blanket lush with life
Starlight dances softly
as singing insects slowly
bring the midnight into melodies of memories and dreams

Bats begin their frenzied feasts
and raccoons rake the ground for seeds
mice meander through the thickets
traipsing to the tuning crickets

Possums prowl beneath the owls
ogling eyes that soon surprise
a vulnerable vole hurrying up from its hole

Coyotes singing sharply in the charismatic chorus
Nocturnal natured beasts betrothe the fearsome nighttime forest
The sun streaks glaze the grass
sending signals in a flash
to the crazy crawling, ever sprawling nightlife
Harmonious howls and chiming chirps quickly quiet
whispers of whirring daylight dance upon the stage
until sunset turns her page
and brings again the moonlight melody
