More than Just a Number

By Ian Kim

You’re more than just a number
Is what all the people said
Before they turned my app away
Cause of a test, on a book I never read

I used to think that these elite institutions wanted the best and the brightest scholars
But really what they wanted was millions and millions of dollars
Cause to get into these schools you’ve got to be one of two things
A special circumstanced genius or richer than a king

I spent hours writing and rewriting supplemental essays
So that they could get read for 30 seconds, and then tossed away
I spent years building up my GPA and extracurricular stuff
Just to be told in less than 300 words that it wasn’t enough

So I wish you good luck
And be a positive thinker
Maybe to them
You’ll be more than just a number
