Forgotten wishes
serve to remind me
of those unforgettable hospital visits.
I might seem selfish,
but I want you
here with me;
not only the part of you
I imagine living within my life,
but the real you
here with me.
Kissing thoughts and caressing words
barely compare to your heat-
beating rhythm-living and lying
in my arms and on my chest,
your head beneath my shoulder.
Your breath-warm, warm, warm-
lingers at my throat,
fades to touch my fingertips.
Were lonely imaginings only practice for today.
Today . . .
