Another day dawned
Rainless and windless
Though my body said "no"
I had to go
Down to the beach once more
To walk on the shore

The tide moved in
Creating tidepools
That grew larger
With each wave

Mesmerized by the water
Relentlessly lapping over the rocks
I was surprised to see
A shallow but fast-moving wave
Closing in on me

No fear of water made me move
As fast as I have in years
'Twas fear of wet tennis shoes
My only pair
That made me hustle
Despite sore muscles
And get myself out of there
