Silently falling around me drowning out thought
Slowly rolling from crown to lips
A lingering kiss without passion or sorrow

Up and down lonely streets bathed in buzzing yellow
Street lights illuminating my shame and guilt
No prospect of forgiveness on the morrow

My last flashing image as life leaves me
No dramatic death rattle but a soft moan
Your face cast in disappointment and disgust

Steam rising from hurried footsteps as you depart
Swallowed by the grey of night
A world weeps at my pain

A changed man I realize too late
No romantic love or fairy tale end
I've nothing left but memory and dust.

This Poems Story

The blossoming romance of teenage years has come back to haunt me after 20 years. A divergent path of life I regret not travelling came back to revisit my loss and guilt. She stood before me and I was blinded by my pain.
