Mr. Raven

with feathers black as ink
But he's disturbed
by a word he heard
and it's driving him to drink
One day while he was pondering
his favorite epitaph,
a man walked by and spotted him
perched above the path
Mr. Raven had no idea
of what he had in store
Then the man looked right at him
and shouted, "Nevermore!"
The bird was so surprised and shocked,
he nearly was upended
The man just laughed and walked away,
not knowing he'd offended
Mr. Raven had been called
a rook, magpie and crow
But what was meant by "Nevermore,"
he thought he'd never know
The clever bird
had never heard
of Edgar Allan Poe!
