Ms Penelope

the only solace she finds,
is the one uncovered
in dream.

Making friends
she’ll never have,
on a fountains slick
rounded edge,
balancing together
hands swinging from side to side,

egging on
throw the penny!
in big block letters,
the sign reads
Is it heads?
unwavering eyes
through the shimmering surface,
their gaze averted,
why? she wonders,

Toss them all at once,
globules of water,
a flock of canaries
yellow streaks in the sun,
have you come to join the merriness?
they dive down,
kingfishers afraid of the light,
the spritz, a rain,
that never will be.
