In shackles no more--
Her real name Elizabeth, but was called Mumbet
The colonel no longer owns her
All day working, working,
But someday, she was free
Her red badge of courage still there,
But just a remnant of her slave life--
Now she is free--free
Heart pounding, sun shining, free
Thunder, lightning, the storm of cruelty
But it will not block the path to freedom
Because she will be free, free
Heart pounding, sun shining, free
She toiled, she struggled
Almost, almost gave up
But she did not
Heart pounding
Sun shining
