My Beautiful Twin
We started out identical, from the very start-
Always seen together, never far apart.
Though we were separate people, we were very much the same.
Others mixing us up, over and over again.
I always had a playmate, we were there for one another;
When one got out of sorts, the other ran for Mother.
We shared so many secrets, always there to lend an ear.
My heart is full of memories, I cherish and hold dear.
As years passed us by, we made families of our own-
Less time spent together, yet our love was always shown.
The thought of losing you, my sister, my best friend,
Broke something deep inside me that will never ever mend.
For words cannot describe the bond between us two;
Words need not be spoken, the other one just knew.
So though I cannot look into your loving eyes,
I'll see you smiling down on me when I gaze into the skies.
You took a part of me with you, when the good Lord called you home.
Yet a part of you still lives in me, never leaving me alone.
We will be together again, my amazing, beautiful twin-
God's promise and His grace gives me peace within.

This Poems Story
I am forty-eight and the daughter of Truman L. and Dolores M. Shaffer, the most wonderful parents in the world. I currently have three siblings, one brother and two sisters. I was blessed to be born an identical twin. I was inspired to write this poem when my beautiful twin sister, Sheila M. DeCapria, passed away on June 19, 2012. These words were written with much love, and God gave me the strength to read it at Sheila's service as a tribute to her. We all love and miss her so much; it's so incredibly hard to believe she's really gone.
