My Beloved

I pick up all my heart's pieces keeping you in mind.
Remembering the strength you held so tight to,
The warrior you were inside.
You fought so hard to stay here but I saw the pain & fear inside your eyes.
Through my tears I told you I love you & it was okay to say goodbye.
I held your hand for as long as I could,
Promised you this goodbye wouldn't be for good.
I let God take you in his arms,
Hold you to his chest,
My dear, sweet Aunt Lori I know you need your rest.
If you should ever miss me poke me & yell at me that you are near.
I'll tell you I never left you & you have nothing to fear.
I hold you in my heart & laugh with you in my dreams.
You are not gone & death is not as it seems.
One day I will be there at those golden gates,
Reaching out for your hand & apologizing for the wait.
Until we can be together again,
I promise to never forget you my beloved best friend.
