My Calling

I sat with my eyes half closed
and scrolled from page to page.
I stumbled across a bold torch,
flame, and a cross proudly placed
upon a gold and navy shield.
By mistake I clicked on ministry,
curiosity pulled me in. A mesh of
foreign children floated past my
glowing screen. Some had ribs
bulging out of their tight skin
but bright smiles masked their pain.
My tired brown eyes shot open
and an eerie chill spiraled down my spine.

Five years from now, I see myself
looking out at bright eyed children
who are drawn to my radiating energy.
I’m pacing back and forth on a stage
exposing my beating heart to the crowd
with God’s words formed on my lips.
