My Child

My child
I weep for you
as I beg God to hold your pain in my own hands

My sweet baby
I want to wish away your misery
and place your suffering upon my own soul

My heart is heavy
as I touch your head

My voice trembling
as I whisper your name

My child
I stand deafened by my own sobbing
frustrated with the unfairness of it all

So much anguish
for the human heart to bear
as I mourn for you…my child
