My Dreams

"Reach for the sky," they told me,
"Be whoever you want."
But the sun was burning my eyes
And when I closed them,
I could only see
Some of my dreams are in black and white-
But the others were
Always red.
The lights of my stage were always blinding red:
They were beautiful.
And the people in the audience
Would always be in awe.
But a simple flaw,
A mistake,
Just one wrong...
And my dream is over.
Slipping through my fingers like sunlight.
I want to reach for the sun, but it burns my eyes.
I shut them,
My heart-
Away from it,
Away from my dream
That will never be.
That can be only just that
A dream.
