My Generation

But her wrists look like my childhood scribbles
Proof of wars she has fought
My sister is a whole universe
But she sees black holes that she cannot escape
Where I see planets and a thousand moons traced into her skin
My teacher is a martyr
And when she taught compassion instead of history
She was politely asked to leave
My school is a large "X" on a map
And they will shoot you where you stand
If you cross the boundary lines
My mind is a marching band
And the same song has been pounding in my head for years
So I refuse to turn the volume down
We will not go quietly
We are hurting
We are revolutionary
How dare you say I am too young
