My Last Breath

My Last Breath
T. A. Murphy

When I breathe in my last breath
By all will I be missed
Will my loved ones face my passing
Like a memory to be kissed

Will my life pass before my eyes
And in a flash I remember it all
Will I feel sorrow for the things I’ve done wrong
Did I always rise after a fall

The people whose lives I’ve touched
Will they remember me well
Will they hope that I’m in heaven
Will they wish I was in Hell

Will I see that golden light
Calling me to come near
Or will I simply see the darkness
Full of dread, sorrow and despair

All I can hope for at that moment
Is that I did my best
And when I close my eyes that one last time
Truly lay me down to rest
