My People

For my people from the small island
For my people from the Caribbean
For my people from the coconut trees
For my people who enjoy the cool island breeze

For my people who try their best
The strong who strive for success
The ones who care for their family
The ones who help the neighbors
The ones who represent the black, gold, and green

My people who sometimes get misunderstood
My people, the ones they call mean
The ones they call hot tempered
The ones they call violent
My people, oh, my people

My people who are so caring
My people who are so strong
My people who are nice
My people who appreciate life
My people who are so loving
My people who are so kind

My people, oh boy! They are one of a kind
