My Precious, Praying Mother

When I was but a small child, I sat near my mother's knee.
With her loving arms around me, I knew nothing would ever harm me.
And as I grew, the days seemed fast, but my mother was always there
With her simple Bible stories and her earnest, daily prayers.

She taught me of God's compassion. She taught me of His great love.
And the story of how He saved us was the one she was fondest of.
I watched as her hair turned to silver, but her spirit never dimmed,
Especially when she lifted her voice to sing some grand old hymn.

Of all the creatures God has made, the greatest is no other
Than the loving saint, the one He gave me,
My precious, praying mother.
