My Voice


I tried to find the words
but not would they come out,
and when they did, they were inside out
backwards, upside down,
until the world who was listening kept their smiles
right side down.

But I have something to say.
Yet, the world still walked away.
Out the door. Shut the door. Never to return.

And if they decide to turn backwards.
Stay a while. Sit in the rocking chair like grandma
with white hair.

I'd say what I'd been trying to get out
since that day the doc said,
"It's a girl."

I. have. a. voice.

And this is what it sounds like...
