It didn't start as a hello
Just something that felt natural
We stood together at a swing
Taking a turn pushing the little ones
Then we both went out for ice cream
Chocolate and vanilla
But that wasn't something strange for us
We knew each other's likes

An instant connection between us two
We finished each other's sentences and thoughts
Then came a time we knew secrets
Those that are deep, dark, and sad
But there was one I never told

We walked our separate paths
But stayed together as a whole
He became a doctor, a husband, a father
I watched as the friend, the sister-in law, the god-mother
I saw it all, I was there for him, but he never knew
What I wished for most
Was him by my side
