Never the same


They never go away,
Memories of that day, that night,
When all the light took leave and flew.
Darkness came and blocked all sight
Of another day, another way.
When he died half of you died too.
Now you struggle to balance,
Fight to take one step
Or you will never more stir.
You knew it would be so,
That never again would you stand quite true.
Loneliness echoes through a void unfilled
By routines, rituals or habits.
Friends tiptoe back to their worlds
Whilst yours lies shattered,
Like an unfinished jigsaw
With half the pieces missing.
That puzzle will never be completed,
It must be left and a new one started,
But not today, not quite yet.
For now once more, you close the wardrobe door....
