New Life

This time last year,
When buds were aching to open
And bees longed to stretch winter off,
My belly was full round,
My arms waiting to hold
That kicking being
Within me.
My eyes would open
Each warming day
To find the branches
Touching my window
Growing heavier with leaves.
The earth was throwing
Back his head,
Shaking off months
Of cold and darkness
And welcoming sunshine
On it's naked skin.
A night of aching,
A sigh -
I held her in my arms
In morning's light.
The buds at last had bloomed,
Yellows and pinks and blues,
Squirrels danced and birds rejoiced,
Her small eyes blinked and beheld
A world teeming with life.
