Newcomer

From spirited expectation,
to a reality of growing confusion.
From sites, screens and signs
reminding him of the varieties of offerings
of foods, flavors, fame and favors day and night.
But there is little, sometimes no consolation for The Newcomer

Demands of a new life
overwhelm the dream state of the dreamer/sojourner
destined for change, renewal
in a foreign land, on someone else's turf.
Seeking, not finding
decisions, not binding
friendships, not lasting
for the Newcomer.

On his own terms he would like
to hold the reins to this runaway carriage
that takes him along the twists and turns
of unknown pathways
before his Newcomer status is relinquished to another.
