The image I had of the world shatters;
Losing my faith, I begin to question everything:
All the things I once took for granted are replaced with uncertainty.
I don't know if I can endure reality;
Beyond the lifted veil I see nothing --
No meaning, no purpose --
A Universe entirely indifferent
To this mere animal on a planet's surface.
If Truth exists, I strive to unearth it:
Racking my mind to discern it,
Driving myself insane,
It seems there's no rhyme or reason to this place ---
Surety of right and wrong I can no longer claim.
Shorn of divine revelation I shiver in fear,
My weakness and mortality made clear.
