No More Am I

No more am I, if you will
A puppet in the land of still
Each day goes by, a working brain
God only knows what is to gain

A yearning heart for what's ahead
But tomorrow brings only dread
Memories of the past fill the heart
Only to set the mind apart from what used to be

Sweet memories, wanting more
Going to find them, but there's the door
That though it's open, can't get through
A thousand books and more to do

Where is the happiness I long to find?
What happens if I leave the work behind?
Always the burden lingering still,
If I do take a chance to get a thrill
