No one knows

No one knows what goes on
when I fall in your arms,
doors and night closed upon
our remorse and alarms.

Rays on snow, a winter morning,
fingers tangled, lips on brow,
overlooking all warning,
each caress hiding a vow.

Steel shrouded in blue velvet
among the captious crowd,
but in the dark it is melted.
All these years lost in doubt!

Now I'm trapped back in my shell
where blood runs colder than hell.
