No Rest This Night
This night there will be no tosses or turns,
No imaginative dreams, no quiet, soft snores.
As she sits awake with tears on her cheeks,
As she clutches her pillow to her chest,
She knows this night there will be no rest.
This night will be long and lonely
With no one she can talk to.
She'll blame herself for her loss,
For the guilt, and how much she's stressed.
No, this night, she will not rest.
This night, she sits in her dark bedroom
Wishing for one more chance.
A chance to make things right,
To turn back time, to be blessed
That one night, she will rest.
This night will soon turn to dawn
And she'll carry this burden another day.
She'll hide behind a smile, her laugh.
How she feels inside, no one could have guessed,
But all she needs right now is rest.
This night, as she prays to God
That He will touch her with His love,
She feels a weight atop her shoulders
And a sharp pain beneath her breast
That will not allow her to rest.
