Not by my design I float

I wish the sea would not carry me.
I wish I could sink into the sand,
Below the waves and foam.

This earth does not want me
Below the waves and foam.
And the sea will only carry me
To whichever land it wants me to roam.

Salt water calls to me,
A wild and wondrous sight.
On top of a tall wave,
I can picture myself take flight.

In awe of what stands below,
I eternally sail and row,
In hopes of finding meaning.

But perpetually I breathe,
Through lungs and not through gills.
Not by my design I float,
Nature has its ways and wills.
