Nothing but Skin

Here I am, all alone,
You see me, yet you are afraid.
I beckon you closer to me,
Yet you shy away.
"Yes, I know our skins are different,
But it has no means today," I say.
When you finally draw near,
I see that you are looking away.
"Why are you not looking my way?"
I ask as you look down at the ground.
You quickly sneak a look my way.
You say something, but I can't make it out.
You say it again, this time I hear clearly.
"I don't trust you," you say.
Wow, that stings, deep in my heart.
We could learn to trust each other,
But not without understanding our differences.
