“‘Ode To Memories’ By Mica Hobbes”

They have painted our faces black,
By reason of the light in them
The world have they given a mark,
By reason of the light in them
Do to me,
O people with light powers,
That which you have done to my brothers
Against you, am I not defenseless?
Against you, am I not powerless?
Against you, am I not unarmed?
The rags have turned into white cloths,
The white cloths have turned into rags
I need a difference in the world,
Have I not seen enough?
You have turned our heads into wrecks,
O people with light powers,
You have taken from me, my desks,
O people with light powers,
From him, have you taken his best,
O people with light powers,
From her, have you taken her rest,
O people with light powers
You divert leadership,
You covet ownership
You rip my soul off grace,
You rip my heart off happiness,
You rip my mind off peace
Enough to finish the world,
Have you not done?
