Ode to Memory
Because of you, dear Memory, I
remember the drunken rages, the
cold, the strikes against skin. Time
it has taken, but, Father, I forgive,
Mother to, for not stopping him.
Because of you, I can recount the harm;
harm I inflicted upon you; Brother – Sister,
forgiveness, I hath begged for; a mystery
as to yes; forgiveness of Self, much more
difficult; lying preferable to Truth, anguish eased.
Because of you, I remember the warmth
of your smile, grace of presence; no point
on your body that did not penetrate my soul;
a rescue from the depths; fire within aroused
every hour, every minute together.
Because of you, my success lives;
victories reveled in, brotherhood shared.
without friends – unbearable.
I am, Oh Memory, because of you!
