Ode to the Homophobes

You can burn me at the stake
But what difference would it make?
My people exist whether you condone it
You can't rid the world of the love we emit
So the next time you tell me how I love is wrong
Remember that my heart is twice as strong
I've seen my loved ones spit on hearts like mine
People have slaughtered us for not following the line
The foundation of hate will not grow anything good
It will only grow sharp trees with jagged and moldy wood
Love, however, makes room for miracles and more
It makes you forget who you were before
So instead of screaming when I hold her hand
Maybe you could sit and observe to understand
