OH CANNELS

Give me a home where the mosquito roams
where san flies are plenty but rain is scare
Grandmother lived there Grandfather too
both live near the house where Safi lived
There were no streets but a single highway
the land was dry and the soil was hard
No lamp post of sorts but moon and stars
half a mile down was the river to retriever
Fish and cassava sweet potato and peas
Cashew nuts was plenty guava was king
Char coals by the bag brooms by the dozen
can be found near the house where Safi lives
Now Grandma and Grandpa is gone to heaven
And so at last it can be told the story of cannels
So much has change you won’t believe it’s not
The only house near the house where Safi lived
