Old, Newfound Love

I could hear his ragged breath
even though I'm deaf,
I felt safe in his strong arms.
I could speak to him
even though words didn't come out of my mouth,
I felt his magnanimous heart beating
as my head lay on his muscular chest,
I could feel my weathered cheek
rub against his rough stubbed one,
I could taste the salt and sweet of his lips
even though I had never been kissed.
I felt love grow in leaps and bounds,
But as dawn broke and heralded a new reality,
he disappeared until it was safe to return
when the dark shadows brought back
the beautiful old, newfound love.
