On Staying Dry

By

Ere I woke up I dreamed I would
be wakened by a bird
But that opinion was annulled
because instead I heard

a booming noise up on our roof
and then another boom.
What I'd forgot, but they did not
is that today they'd come

to take the old tiles off our roof
and put some new ones on.
This job, they told us, would consume
three days before they're done.

Thereafter, they proclaimed, we will
not have a leaky roof
for twenty years or so; till then
we will be weatherproof.

So, to be fair, we'll not complain
about those booms or rain.
