On the Nevada Side

Silvery waves retreat,
And the splashing sounds meet
With the din as loud voices collide.
Barefoot scampering feet;
Swimmers in mid-day heat;
Full blossom on the Nevada side.

Departure is delayed
Till the lengthening shade
Of bright pizza-slice umbrella tops
Tells us plans have been made,
And the children all played,
So the sandcastle building all stops.

The kids are sad to go,
But not me, for I know,
Tides always beat the sandcastle wall;
It leaves a memory though,
That they will keep as they grow;
And the goal of the memory – was all.
