On the Other Side

She saw it in the mirror,
at first she did not mind
but soon it made her quiver
as she thought it might be her kind

It followed her to the bone
the imitations quite precise,
she almost turned to stone
when it judged her for her size

For what was in her sight,
that deep, dark fear
stabbed her with spear
was her constant fight

By the the time she healed
slowly and with pride,
she could see it starting to peel
And under that monstrous hide
lay herself on the other side
