Once Upon a Time

a thought, a memory
a once-upon-a-time
a fragment of a sketch
I once believed was mine
distance, time
make believe
in fantasy I live
for the heart is something
you cannot trust
it is foolish enough to completely get lost
to fall
to feel there is something
when it's nothing at all
to deny fact
and embrace illusion
to become involved
in deep confusion
to wait patiently
when there's no one on their way
to come up with all the wrong things to say
to pretend, to imagine
and somehow still get hurt
to be wide awake
but never alert
to always betray, and always misguide
you just can't trust your heart
it's not on the right side
