Open your eyes

Sunshine through the window pane,
It is time for those that reign
To fall before those who strain
To see the light

Winter winds they say are coming,
To burn the flesh and sting the eyes
Of those that see, but do not heed
Our children's cries

Days of old are long past gone
Slipped away like sands of time
Standing, waiting for it's cold touch
To take us home only to slip away
From life's cruel clutch

Lashing out in a chorus of cries
"When will it stop, when will it end"
Life is but a flicker of the flame
To be cherished and exulted, not snuffed
Out like in some video game.

Open your eyes, see the wonderment
And the beauty both inside and out
That place which lies before us all
High upon the mountain top or low
Beyond the valley floor

Beauty is within us all just wanting to reach out.
