Our Smiles

By

It is our smiles that keep us young.
I look into that dreadful mirror
and I see an old lady looking back at me.

Then a vision comes to mind
some memory from yesterday
and I smile my pirate smile
and I know that our smiles keep us young.

But the bad times are here now
and everyone wears a mask.
We cannot see each other's smiles.
We cannot hear and our voices are muffled.

What is to become of us
walking around with our faces covered and hidden?
Songs are not sung and dreams are not lived.
The sweet music from yesterday cannot be heard.

I look in that mirror and I want to cry
because I remember
It is our smiles that keep us young.
