Our Smiles

By

It is our smiles that keep us young.
I look into that dreadful mirror
and I see an old lady
looking back at me.

Then a vision comes to my mind,
some memory from yesterday
and I smile my pirate smile
and I know it is our smiles that keep us young.

The bad times are here now
and everyone wears a mask.
We cannot see each other's faces.
We cannot hear each other speak.

What is to become of us
with our faces covered and hidden?
I look in that mirror and I want to cry.
It is our smiles that keep us young.
