Our Smiles

By

It is our smiles that keep us young.
I look into that dreadful mirror
and I see an old lady looking back at me.

Then I see a vision
a memory of yesterday
and I smile my pirate smile
I know it is our smiles that keep us young.

But the bad times have come now
and everyone is wearing a mask.
We cannot show our smiles
we cannot see and we cannot hear.

Songs unsung and dreams not lived
Our voices are muffled by the masks
and no smiles can be seen.

What is to become of this world
now with our faces covered?
We cannot see each other
We cannot hear each other.

What is to become of the sweet songs of yesterday?
I look in that mirror and I want to cry
because I remember it is our smiles that keep us young.
