Our Tears

A strange coolness
In my bones,
In the air,
Tells me
Something new
Will soon arrive.

Will you dance with me
When it appears?

Late October
In the valley
Promises
The disappearance
Of the sun
Behind early nightfall,
The vanishing
Of the moon
Behind overcast skies.

Will you kiss me
Under the invisible stars?

When the clouds
Finally share their sorrows
I’ll be there
To comfort,
Soothe,
Console them
With my own
Anguish.

Will you weep with me
When the cloudburst disguises our tears?

The rain
Will drown the people.
The wind
Will crush their homes.
The cold
Will freeze their hopes.

Will you laugh with me
When the first green sprouts
Shoot up
In the spring?
