Out of My Mind

On a random Wednesday morning
We spent the crisp golden hours
Before the heat sets in
Driving and talking
And soaking in the rays of light
That filter through the window
And land in our laps
Like bundles of gerbera daisies
And daffodils and sprinkled with
Handfuls of dandelions

Those days were pure
And untainted by the dark
And the nights we would drive
Without one star dropping glitter
On our heads to stir our happiness
The sharp beams of moon
Slicing through the window
Pulling the darkness through
In a whispering vacuum
That weighed down the silence

On a random Wednesday morning
Those days were hidden from sight
Under the backseat
Of of the old pickup truck
Out of sight
Out of my mind.
