I watched them pass by me on the way to the store.
Following one another, like sheep stepping on
Invisible squares painted along their path. Children
No longer held loving hands but followed as they
Obliged the new norm forced on everyone.
Some looked my way but did not ask why I had no mask
Covering my soul. They were more concerned about the
Distance between us. I was hoping they would ask so I
Could tell them the truth hidden beneath layers of
Deceit. This was no different than any other illness
Concocted through the ages. Fear of a black death
Occurrence motivated many to walk obediently
to red squares labeled compliance.
We are born and then we leave, which is a more natural,
Loving control. Many are given time to enjoy the fruits
Of someone else's labor. And now, the norm has been
Renovated by man's all encompassing wisdom.
I know we were not asked to participate in creation.
Yet here we are saying we can do it better...
The attendant in the store reminded me I had no mask.
Authority at its best. "No ma'am, I do not nor do I
Intend to wear one." There was a gasp behind her mask
As I walked away engulfed in the savor of freedom.
